calabasas recording studio

George performed all acoustic design on this privately owned working studio that is used for both live audio recording and mixing.

Ambient noise levels in the area are low and neighboring residences are nearby, so envelope sound isolation was required for mitigation of in-to-out transmission so as to facilitate recording late into the night as required. Box in box construction, extensive use of isolation clips, and heavily detailed double window construction was used.

Room shaping was optimized to mitigate flutter and to facilitate mixing.

Surface treatment in the form of varying depths of absorptive panels, panel absorbers for low frequency control, and diffuser panels were all included in the design, but have not yet been incorporated.

NOTE: Photos do not show surface treatments as designed.

Mechanical noise mitigation was aided by the fan coil unit being placed outside the envelope of the studio, a simple breakout silencer fashioned with flex duct as suggested by Marshall Long’s text, and oversized ductwork.
